Northern Argentina Highlights

Spend 15 days exploring the wonders of Northern Argentina, from the ancient culture of the Quilmes Ruins to cosmopolitan Buenos Aires. Trek through breathtaking canyons and colourful mountains, see ancient petroglyphs, taste wines, and learn to Tango in the 'Paris of South America'.

Visit Salta, a lovely colonial town nestling in the Humahuaca Gorge. Mendoza is famous for its wine production, take a winery tour and find out why Argentina's wines are world renowned. Take a scenic train ride and see Cafayate, a beautiful village in the Calchaqui Valley, famous for its landscapes and surrounding multicoloured mountains. Tucuman and the Talampaya & Ischigualasto National Parks are also included in this interesting trip to the heart of the Andes.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Buenos Aires Arrive in Buenos Aires at any time.
Days 2-5: Salta Take in the region's spectacular scenery on a trip across the mountains on the "Train of the Clouds". Later, explore the Salta by bike, riding to historic San Bernardo Hill. On your return to the city, be sure to try empanadas, the delicious local specialty. (Please NOTE that the Train to the Clouds is currently under repair and this excursion will be done along the same route by minivan until further notice.)
Days 6-7: Cafayate Cafayate is a charming small town surrounded by colourful mountains. Explore the area by bicycle, or visit the Quilmes Ruins, direct descendents of the Incas. Make sure to taste some of the great local wines!
Day 8: Tucumán Travel by bus to Tucumán, the charming city where Argentineans proclaimed, and still celebrate, their independence. Take an optional visit to explore the Yungas, a region of fascinating scenery where mountains and rainforest come together to form a unique ecosystem.
Day 9-10: Chilecito Visit the Cactus Botanical Garden, tour the oldest gold mine in Argentina and roam where the dinosaurs once roamed at the Talampaya and Ischigualasto National Parks.
Day 11-13: Mendoza The wine capital of Argentina! Take a winery tour and find out why Argentina's wines, especially the Malbec, are renowned by wine experts as some of the world's best. Optional activities include rafting, horse riding and trekking.
Day 14: Buenos Aires Buenos Aires has been called the 'Paris of South America', and it's easy to see why. Take time to explore the diverse neighbourhoods of this European-flavoured city.
Day 15: Depart Buenos Aires.
