24 day Cruise / Land itinerary - Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands
This unique 25 day cruise tour incorporates the fantastic 8 night Hebdridean cruise along the Pacific coast of
Ecuador and Peru.
Pre-cruise the tour begins with visits to Quito, Cotapaxi Volcano, a stay at a spa hacienda in the mountains and then
an unforgettable 4 night Galapagos cruise and wildlife adventure.
Board Hebridean Spirit in Ecuador for the Pacific Rim
cruise, that includes escorted tours of colonial Cuenca, the scenic journey through the Vally of the Volcanoes, Lima, Trujillo, the
13th century citadel of Chan Chan, the Huacas del Sol y la Luna and the renowned
archaeological site at Caral. These ancient treasures of Northern Peru are little visited and you will be escorted by expert guides.
Post cruise the journey continues into the Sacred Valley of Peru, to the lost Inca city of Machu Picchu for an overnight stay
at this Wonder of the World. Stay in Cuzco and explore the surrounding Inca terraces and colourful villages
and markets of the Urubamba Valley before travelling to the Colca Canyon. The scenery here is stunning and the area is
home to vicuņas, llamas and the majestic condor.
Human activity in this part of South America goes back five millennia and imposed on the life of indigenous peoples was
both the invasion by the Spanish conquistadores and then
eventual independence. Scenically and culturally the region has an irresistible and magnetic attraction.

| Mon 11 Feb: | Salaverry / Trujillo, Peru. Privately Escorted Tour - please ask for details. After a morning at sea Hebridean Spirit arrives in Salaverry, the gateway to Peru and the port for Trujillo, which was founded in 1534. This town boasts colourful colonial architecture and is now the economic focus of northern Peru. Its agricultural prosperity was based on sugar cane and asparagus and, to some extent, remains so. |

| Wed 13 Feb: | Supe, Peru. Privately Escorted Tour - please ask for details. Our arrival in Supe puts us in place for the visit to the ancient civilization at Caral, an astounding urban complex of pyramids and plazas, contemporary with Pharaonic Egypt. Discovered only in 1948 by Paul Kotok, Ruth Shady began work on the site again in 1994. |
| Thurs 14 Feb: | Puerto del Callao, Lima, Peru. Puerto del Callao is the port for the capital Lima some seven miles away. Founded in 1537 Callao has a colourful history, including a devastating tsunami in 1746, earthquakes, and the sacking by Francis Drake in 1578. A tour of Lima will take in the Archbishop's Palace and the cathedral of the old city, with refreshments in a private residence. After lunch on board, watch a display of the high-stepping Paso horses at the privately owned Hacienda Mamacona. |
| Fri 15 Feb: | Puerto del Callao, Peru. Privately Escorted Tour - please ask for details. A guided tour of the Larco Herrera Museum, which houses an impressive and varied display of treasures. After lunch on board a private visit to a lovely home dating from the 1700s to meet the current owner, an avid collector. |
| Sat 16 Feb: | Disembarkation: Puerto del Callao, Lima. / Cuzco, Peru. Disembark Hebridean Spirit. Fly from Lima to Cuzco with overnight at the Hotel Monasterio, an exquisite converted monastery in the heart of the city. |
| Sun 17 Feb: | Urubamba Valley. Full day tour to Pisac and Ollantaytambo with overnight at the Villas Urubamba. |
| Mon 18 Feb: | Machu Picchu. Train to Machu Picchu. Day at the citadel with overnight at the hotel Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel on site. |
