Probably the most famous site in Latin America, part of the great enjoyment of Machu Picchu is
getting there from Cuzco, either by train and bus or on foot. If you fancy the strenuous but rewarding hike you have a choice of three possible Inca Trails. Bear in mind that it is no longer possible to walk the Inca Trails to Machu Picchu independently.
The Classic Inca Trail, the trail where you walk into the citadel, has daily restrictions on numbers. We offer two
alternative trails, the Lares and the Salkantay, that also finish in Machu Picchu,
though a short part of the final stretch is done by bus. The Choquequirao Inca Trail starts and finishes
in Cuzco.
All trails have regular departures, on these incredible journeys in the footsteps of the Incas. Please contact us to find
out which of these trails would suit you best. They include porters to carry luggage, a cook preparing 3 meals a day, a
bilingual guide, bottled water and transportation from/to Cuzco.
Walking the Inca Trail is best avoided during the rainy season from January to March.

The Lares, Salkantay and Choquequirao Inca Trails
Three alternative trails are the Lares, Salkantay and Choquequirao.
The Lares Trail is a four day trip which involves trekking in the Sacred Valley from Cuzco to Ollantaytambo with two nights camping. Then take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes (the nearest town to the Machu Picchu ruins). Overnight here in a mid-range hostel before visiting Machu Picchu early the next morning for a guided tour and then travelling by train back to Cusco. This is a shorter trek that combines part walking and part train and is a good alternative if you don't fancy walking all the way from Cuzco.
The Salkantay is a longer trail that goes via Salkantay mountain for wonderful views before descending into the cloud forest. The walking ends in the San Miguel Valley from which you take a bus to Machu Picchu. After a guided visit and time to wander the ruins you return to Cuzco.
The Choquequirao Trail begins and ends in Cuzco, taking in the Tarawasi ruins and the Apurimac Canyon with views of the Vilcabamba mountains. Please call us for more details.
