The Copper Canyon is located in the north-west desert region of Mexico and offers some of the country's most spectacular and stunning scenery. It is actually a series of 20 canyons, right in the middle of Mexico's wilderness and is home to the Tarahumara people who continue to live the simple life of a bygone era.
The best way to see the Canyon is to ride the Copper Canyon Railway which runs from Los Mochis to Chihuahua City and back again. It is a stunning piece of engineering achievement, opened in 1961 to connect the Pacific coast with Mexico's central desert region.
You can take the train ride for the view alone, or you could spend up to a week in the region, using the train line as your main route through the canyons, stopping overnight to explore and discover the local areas.
Below we highlight a three night and a five night rail journey. The three night trip offers a good overview of the area from Los Mochis to Chihuahua, whilst the five night tour overnights at some top-end colonial mansions and begins and ends in Los Mochis. Please let us know your needs and we can tailor the trip accordingly. Please note, the rail ticket needs to be booked in advance due to the popularity of this spectacular journey.
