San Pedro Sula

Honduras' second largest city and business centre is located in the north, just an hour away from the coast. It is a good hub for connecting to other points of interest, with its international airport and wide range of hotels and facilities, though the city's main attractions are the excellent National Parks that surround it.

Stay for a couple of days and visit the country's finest cloud forest reserve, El Cusuco National Park - the area includes tropical rainforest and virgin cloud forest with a wealth of rare and interesting flora and fauna. Experience a unique visit to the mangrove canals of Punta Izopo National Park, where guides will take you wildlife spotting on sea kayaks.

Cusuco National Park
Because of its mountainous topography, Honduras has more cloud forests than any other country in Central America. Located in the Merendon Mountains in the heart of the old forestry district, the Cusuco National Park got his name from an Armadillo native to Central America. The Park is predominantly cloud forest and you have a good chance of seeing deer, peccary, monkeys, various tropical birds and even the elusive Quetzal bird and jaguar make their home here.

Punta Izopo National Park
This unique National Park has a tropical wetland and mangrove forest with rivers, lagoons, canals, marshes, sand beaches and coral reefs. This full day guided tour is made on sea kayaks through the canals within the mangrove forests, which permit travellers to silently enter the area without disturbing the birds and other wildlife. Punta Izopo is home to wildlife such as alligators, turtles, howler monkeys, toucans, parrots and blue morph butterflies.
The tour includes the Garifuna town of Triunfo de la Cruz, set in a beautiful bay which was the disembarkation point of the Spanish Conquistadors.
