Tikal, Mayan ruins in Guatemala

Tikal

Shrouded in dense tropical jungle Tikal is probably the most extraordinary of all the Mayan sites. The buildings date back some 2500 years and many are still hidden by the rain forest.

Tikal is best viewed at dawn or at dusk when the air is still and the only sounds are those of the howler monkeys and the jungle.
