Cruising:
There are two main types of boat to choose from, the Cruise Ships and the Small Boats.
Cruise Ships
Capacity: up to 100 passengers
Cruise Ships have considerably more space and are more stable in the water, thus better if you suffer badly from
sea sickness. They also tend to have more facilities on board and larger cabins. However, bear in mind that you will take
it in turn to depart from the ship as there are more people to disembark for shore excursions.
The main cruise ships we recommend are Santa Cruz, Galapagos Explorer, Legend and Celebrity Explorer.
Small Boats
Capacity: 8-40 passengers
Smaller vessels offer a more intimate cruise and avoid the feeling of being on a big cruise liner.
There are 3 standards of smaller boat cruising the Galapagos Islands, luxury, first class and tourist class:
Luxury boats usually have two lower berths, some can offer a double bed, and are en-suite with air-conditioning. They
have more space, comfort and the best cuisine, enabling you to cruise in style.
First Class boats may have upper and lower berths and the quality
is of a good standard. Private shower and toilet are guaranteed.
Tourist boats generally have twin berths, upper and lower only,
and usually, but not always, with private facilities. This is very important
if you (or your fellow passengers) do not have good sea legs. Space is more
limited and you will almost certainly have to climb vertical steps to move
from one deck to another.
Sail or Motor?
Sailing the Galapagos is an incredibly romantic idea but the islands are
not noted for their winds. If you are on a sailing boat you may well get to
cruise under full sail but much of the time you will be under motor.
What’s included in the cruise:
Transfers from Galapagos Airport to and from the boat are included. All meals are included on board and bottled water on most boats. All other drinks are extra, especially alcoholic ones. All guided tours and excursions on the islands are included, accompanied by a bi-lingual naturalist guide.
Some boats offer occasional scuba diving for those already certified, at an extra cost. This should be pre-booked
before travel. Tips are not included.
Cruise prices:
Flights are not included, we can give you a flight quote depending on your travel dates and preferred carrier.
Low and high season dates vary for individual boat operators. Some of the boats offer different cabin types, please
contact us for more information.
RQ = price on request.
* M/Y Grace will start sailing in July 2008
Connecting flights from the mainland:
We will dove-tail return flights from Quito into your cruise, please note the route is usually
Quito-Guayaquil-Galapagos-Guayaquil-Quito. Return flights cost approximately £260, depending on the dollar/pound
exchange rate.
Galapagos Taxes:
A National Park tax of US$100, a Tourist Card costing US$10 and airport tax, US$5, are all payable locally and not included in the cruise costs. (Rates are approximate).
Chartering a boat:
This is a great way for a family or group of friends to travel. Some of the small boats are ideally suited for chartering
as they cater for between 8 and 16 passengers. (We can charter the larger boats too if there are more of you). Some of
the boats can be chartered at different prices according to the number of passengers, please contact us for prices.
| Notes: | Prices are per person based on double occupancy. |
| The price shown is a guideline only and may change due to variations in the dollar / pound exchange rate or season. Please contact us for an exact quote based on your requirements. |
