Cotopaxi is Ecuador's highest active volcano at 5897m, located in the Valley of the Volcanoes which streches along the Quito to Riobamba road. It is the jewel in the crown of the Eastern Cordillera, with an almost perfectly symmetrical cone. This two day trip involves trekking in the Cotopaxi Nacional Park with a night's accommodation at El Porvenir Hacienda that lies in the foothills of the volcano. Included are all meals, transfers, local bi-lingual guides and excursions.
| DAY 1: | Pick up from Quito hotel, transfer to El Porvenir Hacienda. Trek into the Cotopaxi National Park, at a height of about 3700 metres. |
| DAY 2: | Trekking up to an altitude of about 4000 metres, very close to the peaks of old Ruminahui volcano named after a fierce Inca Army General. This beautiful area is home to wild horses and lidia cattle, and there's a good chance of spotting a condor in flight. In the afternoon trek back to El Porvenir Hacienda from where you will be transferred back to Quito. There is also the option to go horseriding today. |

Valley of the Volcanoes on the Chiva Express
If you are not inclined to trekking, we can offer other trips along the Valley of the Volcanoes, that involve travelling on the "Chiva Express", a modified train that resembles the local open-topped Chiva buses. Please contact us for more details.
