Tour: Pearl of the Caribbean

This seven day group tour shows you the highlights of central and western Cuba. After a couple of days exploring Havana, we head for the Viñales Valley to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the Sierra del Rosario National Park. Then head east, via Santa Clara where you'll find the Che Guevara mausoleum, to the colonial city of Trinidad, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you'll stay in a beautiful former colonial mansion. Also visit Cienfuegos before returning to Havana.

Included in the tour are all meals, a visit to Ernest Hemingway's home, a chance to enjoy traditional salsa music at the Casa de la Trova, a visit to a Cuban cigar factory and a night at Havana's famous Tropicana Show (optional extra). We can easily add on a few days at a beach at the end of the tour, just ask.

Pearl of the Caribbean
Day 1: Welcome at Jose Marti Airport where we will be transferred to Old Havana for overnight accommodation at the historic, colonial-style Hotel Sevilla (4 stars) situated in an excellent position and within a very short walk of Old Havana.
Day 2: Guided tour of Havana, visiting all the major sights of the city. Lunch is at the famous El Patio restaurant, overlooking Cathedral Square in the heart of Old Havana. After lunch, drive outside Havana to Finca Vigia, the former Cuban home of Ernest Hemingway, its contents remains untouched since he left. The remainder of the day at leisure. After dinner at El Aljibe restaurant, specialising in traditional Cuban cuisine, there is an optional visit to the world famous Tropicana Cabaret. Set under the stars, the show depicts the history of Cuban dance and music with over 100 dancers - an amazing spectacle.
Day 3: After breakfast drive outside Havana to Finca Vigia, the former Cuban home of Ernest Hemingway, the contents of which remain untouched since he left.
Continue east through sugar plantations for the city of Santa Clara, the final resting place of “Che “ Guevara. Visit the mausoleum and the museum dedicated to Che's life and the train “Tren Blindado” that was attacked in the decisive moments of the Cuban Revolution.
Continue on to Trinidad, an UNESCO heritage site and well preserved colonial city. Overnight and dinner will be at the Iberostar Grand Hotel.
Day 4: After breakfast explore Trinidad.Enjoy traditional Cuban music at the Casa de la Trova, followed by a visit to La Canchanchara, an old house dating back to the 18th Century. Lunch and dinner at the Grand Hotel Trinidad.
Day 5: After breakfast enjoy a city tour of Cienfuegos before departing for Pinar Del Rio province, an area known as Cuba’s main tobacco growing region, where steep sided “Mogote” mountains stand guard over fertile valleys.
En route stop at Guama where we will take a boat through the mangrove swamps to a replica stilted Taino Indian village on the shores of Treasure Lake. Continue to the Moka hotel, situated deep in the Sierra Del Rosario Nature Reserve. Dinner will be served in a farmer’s restaurant specialising in Cuban cuisine.
Day 6: Depart for the famous Vinales Valley, with stops for absorbing the beauty of the area. There will be a subterranean boat ride through the El Indio limestone cave system followed by lunch in the Ranchon San Vicente country restaurant. In the late afternoon, return to the Moka Hotel and dinner will be taken in an organic vegetarian restaurant. Many previous visitors have said this is the best restaurant in Cuba. An excellent end to the day.
Day 7: After breakfast visit the local community of Las Terrazas, followed by a cooling swim in the San Juan River. After lunch overlooking the lake transfer back to Havana for ownward flights or travel within Cuba. The tour ends in Havana.

Prices are per person based on double occupancy in the low season. High season dates are 23-30 December and 22-29 June, at a cost of £779 per person.

Transatlantic flights are not included. All other transport as mentioned is included, using air-conditioned coaches. All excursions, accommodation and most meals are included. The restaurants are chosen where possible for their local character, views and traditional Cuban cuisine.
