Crossing the Andes
- Atacama to Salta with Explora
This amazing package crosses the Andes mountain range between the Atacama Desert in Chile and Salta in Argentina, with accommodation and transport provided by the prestigious Explora group of hotels. Travellers to this 4,000 metre high region experience the beauty of volcanoes and salt flats interwoven between lakes and marshes with scenery varying from ochre yellows, brilliant blues, verdant greens and orange-browns.
The trip can be taken from Argentina to Chile or vs.vs. In Argentina, visit Salta, one of the oldest colonial villages in Argentina, and travel the ancient route used duriing colonial times between the Viceroyalty of Peru and Argentina. Travel through the Calchaquies Valley, another ancient route, that features an imposing landscape with traces of the Atacaman Indian culture and other pre-Columbian cultures.
This trip can be taken between April to December. Accommodation is a mixture of hotel, traditional hacienda and camping.
Atacama to Salta - 8 day/7 night Journey

| Day 1: | Arrival transfer from Calama airport to the Hotel Explora En Atacama, approx. one hour journey. |
| Days 2-4: | Three full days guided exploration in the Atacama Desert. |
| Day 5: | Departure for Argentina. High altitude walk to lakes, salt flats and volcanoes. Lodging at the Tambo La Quesera Campsite at 3,500 metres in Poma, Argentina, after passing Abra de Acay (4,895 metres). |
| Day 6: | Exploring and high-altitude walks in the Poma area. Visit to Cachi. Lodging in the Finca Rancagua houses. |
| Day 7: | Exploring in the Calchaquies Valley or walk towards el Nevado de Cachi. Lodging in the Finca Rancagua houses. |
| Day 8: | Departure to Salta. En route explore the Cuesta del Obispo. Arrive in Salta and choose between transfer to hotel of your choice in the city (not included) or to the airport for onward flight. Tour ends here. |
