Chilean and Bolivian Atliplanos
- Atacama to the Salar de Uyuni
This extraordinary 11 day trip is run by the prestigious Explora group and takes you to a remote and scenic region. The journey begins with a stay at the Hotel Explora Atacama. After four days enjoying this superb and luxurious hotel, exploring the area around Atacama with various excursions and aclimatising to the altitude, you then leave for Bolivia, climbing up to 4,000 metres. From here cross the altiplano by van and explore the spectacular surroundings on foot, including the Laguna Colorada, the "Red lake", so called due to the red coloured algae which rare James flamingos feed off. Each night you sleep in Explora Campsites. The final destination is the Salar de Uyuni, the highest and one of the largest salt flats in the world, an expanse of blinding white salt against the bright blue sky. After spending five days in Bolivia you return to Chile, ending the trip in the city of Iquique.
During the first four nights guests stay at the Hotel Explora Atacama. The next five nights are spent at Explora Campsites, which have a common living area, a kitchen and a dining area where gourmet food is served. All meals have been designed with the excursions and altitude in mind. Bathrooms have showers with hot water. Guests spend the last night in the city of Iquique in Chile. Full board is included throughout the trip, all transfers and excursions mentioned.
This trip can be taken from April to December.
Atacama and Salar de Uyuni Journey - 11 days / 10 nights:

| Day 1: | Arrival transfer from Calama airport to the Hotel Explora En Atacama, approx. one hour journey. |
| Days 2-4: | Three full days guided exploration in the Atacama Desert. |
| Day 5: | Leave Explora Hotel. Enter Bolivia by mini-bus, through the "Hito Cajon". Cross the altiplano, passing through active geothermic fields, the Laguna Colorada and many other sites. Trekking excursions. Arrive at first campsite. |
| Day 6: | Trekking excursions. Travel through the altiplano. Second campsite. |
| Day 7: | Arrival at the Salar de Uyuni. Cross the salt flat (110km). Visit the salt flat islands. Arrival at the third campsite on the shore of the salt flat. |
| Day 8: | Excursion in the hillsides of the Tunupa Volcano (5,432 metres high). Lodging at the third campsite. |
| Day 9: | Leave crossing the salt flat, toward Chilean border. Cross the Salar de Coipasa. Numerous natural attractions. Trekking. Enter Chile at Colchane. Lodging at fourth campsite. |
| Day 10: | Cross the Chilean Altiplano. Visit the geothermal camp Puchuldiza or the Berenguela thermal baths, depending on weather conditions. Arrive at Iquique in the afternoon. Night in Iquique. Dinner at restaurant of choice. |
| Day 11: | Transfer to Calama airport for onward flight. |
