The Atacama Desert
The world's driest desert rises from sea level to 13,000 ft in the Andes. At altitude the desert is bitterly cold at night and we recommend you wrap up well for the trip to see the Tatio Geysers at dawn.As the sun rises, the geysers shoot into action making for some spectacular photographs if you are lucky. San Pedro de Atacama, a once fertile oasis where the Atacama Indians thrived, is an excellent base from which to visit the Salt flats and Valley of the Moon, keep your eyes peeled for flamingos, vicunas and llamas. You may even spot a nandu, the Latin America ostrich.
