Paraty
This 17th century village is a real gem, four hours drive South from Rio, down the Costa Verde. As well as enjoying the charming colonial atmosphere of the
town, you can visit lovely nearby beaches and islands by boat, which leave
the harbour frequently each day. A few days relaxing here is highly recommended.
Traffic is banned in the centre of the village (it would be impossible to drive on
the uneven cobble stones in any case) and there are lots of great restaurants
and bars to explore.
Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande can easily be visited as day trips and it is
simple to hire a fishing boat and find a beach to yourself on one of the nearby
islands.
