The Takesi trail links the Altiplano and the region known as the Yungas - the lush sub-tropical valleys covered with thick cloud forest that sit between the mountains of the Cordillera and the Amazon Basin. The trail, starting close to La Paz, follows sections of pre-Columbian paved roads, many say Inca Trails, and finishes more than 3000 m below. You cross part of the Altiplano, visit abandoned mines and hike along deep canyons and tropical valleys.
You can do this trek from April to October and it is moderately hard going, though you must be well acclimatised to the altitude before attempting any trekking in Bolivia.
