About 10 miles outside La Paz natural erosion has led to some unusual rock formations that appear to be like the surface of the moon. Seen against the bright blue of the Andean sky you could be in another world.

The ruins of Tiwanaku:
The pre-Inca civilisation that built these ruins appears to have emerged approximatlely 3000 years ago but by the time the Incas conquered the region in 1200AD they found the Aymara Indians living amongst ruins at Tiwanaku they could no longer explain. A visit here is strongly recommended.
