Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve

The Reserve is a spectacular range of rolling hills, rocks and gorges, with splendid caves and waterfalls surrounded by pine forest. Unfortunately, the pine forest area is still recovering from a recent infestation of pine beetle, but there is still plenty to do in the area, including excellent walking and hiking trails.

Above all else it is a base from which to visit Caracol, Belize's largest and most important Mayan Heritage Site. And watch out for the Howler Monkeys!

We offer a range of lodges from which you can easily organise trips to see the Mayan ruins nearby or to enjoy the scenery of the area. From here we also arrange side trips across the border to the spectacular ruins of Tikal, or take you in the opposite direction down into the Stann Creek District to the jaguar reserve.

Blancaneaux Lodge

Film mogul Francis Ford Coppola's Blancaneaux Lodge is located deep in the Mountain Pine Forest Reserve (the ceiling fans in the bar are from the set of Apocalpyse Now). You can ride through the reserve on horseback, travel down the Macal River in a dugout canoe, or explore the river caves of the Rio Frio. The Blancaneaux lodge has a variety of villas offering rustic charm and comfort.
