Caiman in the Ibera Wetlands

Tour: Argentina Adventure

This adventurous two week itinerary combines Buenos Aires, a stay at an estancia, the Iguassu Falls and the Ibera Wetlands. It is designed to particularly appeal to those with an interest in wildlife and outdoor activities such as riding, walking and canoeing.

The awe-inspiring waterfalls of Iguassu are surely one of the greatest wonders of the natural world, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. Crossing the borders of both Argentina and Brazil it is best to visit the waterfalls on each side. Arguably the most impressive view of the Falls is the striking Devil's Throat on the Argentine side, a U-shaped 150 metre wide and 700 metre long cliff surrounded by jungle.

Experience the gaucho lifestyle by spending a few days on an "estancia", or ranch. Although ideal for those who love horse riding, they are also a great way to enjoy walking, fishing and bird-watching. One of our favourite estancias is Dos Tales, one of the most magnificent estancias in Argentina set in 40 hectares of parkland. Activities include riding, cycling, swimming and kayaking and a memorable highlight is the chance to sample traditional Argentinian barbecues.

The Ibera marshlands in North Eastern Argentina are the second largest in South America. Double the size of the Everglades in Florida, these until recently inaccessible marshes have protected a wide range of wildlife and offer an unforgettable experience for nature lovers. The area is home to anacondas, capybaras, caymen, marsh deer, howler monkeys and giant storks, amongst others. Enjoying bird-watching, wildlife spotting, canoe and boat trips, riding and nature walks.
