This amazing 6 day trip takes you back in time to the Jesuit Missions of the 17th Century, the result of the evangelical determination of the Jesuit priests to convert the Guarani aborigines to Christianity. You will visit missions in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil before finishing your tour with a few days at the nearby Iguazu Falls.
The tour begins in Posadas in Argentina and takes you straight to Encarnacion in Paraguay to visit two of the sites of the Paraguayan Jesuit Missions, the ruins of Trinidad del Parana and Jesus de Tavarangue. Return to Argentina and travel to Obera, located in the heart of the sub-tropical jungle and founded by the immigrants of 14 different nationalities, who still keep traits of their culture and traditions untouched.
On Day 2 we cross the River Urguguay by raft to enter Brazil for a tour of the San Miguel ruins before returning to Obera. Day 3 includes excursions to a tea plantation and the Santa Ana ruins as well as the famous San Ignacio Mini ruins. This site has one of the best preserved of the missions, dating from 1696, and its carvings and architecture reveal the advanced culture of the Guarani.
The tour finishes at the magnificent Iguazu Falls, with visits to both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides included and accommodation at the Sheraton International Hotel, within the Iguazu National Park. The Iguazu rainforest is biologically the richest area in the country and offers palmettos and amazing wildlife as well as the falls.
