The advantage of cruising on one of the Adventure ships is that they provide the opportunity for extra activities, for example sea kayaking and camping. In addition Ocean Nova can also arrange mountaineering and cross-country skiing for passengers (02 November 2008 departure only). Few other boats can provide these activities, which offering unique experiences in Antarctica.

Akademik Shokalskiy was originally designed and built in Finland for polar and oceanographic research. The ship is small with a maximum of 48 guests and ice-strengthened. Its size means it's capable of reaching the nooks and crannies of Antarctica that many larger ships cannot. Amenities include two dining rooms with unreserved seating, buffet-style breakfast, table-service lunch and dinner, a newly-renovated presentation room, lounge and bar, library, ship-to-shore communications via satellite, on board doctor and exercise room.

Ocean Nova offers you the chance to experience ultimate adventure in great comfort. This 73 metre expedition ship is modified to operate in ice-filled waters and has many of the amenities of a classic passenger cruise vessel. The ship was upgraded in 2000 and once again in 2006 to include a glass-enclosed forward observation lounge on the top deck where expert lectures on the Antarctic environment can be heard. The vessel is guided by Danish officers with extensive experience in polar navigation. With 42 outside cabins only (all with private facilities), a passenger capacity of 96, a spacious dining room and a comfortable library, the Ocean Nova is a perfect expedition ship for discovering Antarctica.
